Cellulite and Exercise – Myths

By Diet | Jul 16, 2009

If you want to get rid of cellulite through exercise, it’s definitely a good idea. Many people struggle because they have no idea what they’re doing and as a result, they see no improvement in their cellulite condition. Remember, cellulite fat is the last fat to disappear from your body, so even though diet and exercise may seem ineffective, don’t give up! There is nothing wrong with maintaining a healthy lifestyle anyway.

Here I have some of the most common myths about cellulite and exercise, and some information that will help clarify what is going on, as well as useful information to help tone your body and rid you of cellulite!

1. Weight lifting will make you look bulky.

This is also untrue. The reason men become bulky is because of testosterone. Because testosterone levels in women is so low, there is no chance that they will start to become bulky. In other words: go ahead and lift weights! It will make you get you leaner and skinner much faster than aerobic exercise will. It is best to do them body.

2. Aerobic exercise is better for losing fat than weight lifting.

This is simply not true! One of the best ways to lose fat is to build muscle. In the process of building muscle you will be shedding fat anyway, and a person who has a lot of muscle mass automatically burns off fat through the course of their day anyway. That is why weight lifting is so effective: the effort goes into building muscle, not just expending energy! Make sure you are going to the gym and doing weight lifting workouts as part of your routine. Doing something like jogging or some other form of aerobic exercise is great and I definitely recommend it, but combine it with lifting weights for best results. Remember: the more fat you lose, the closer you get to eliminating cellulite.

3. Cellulite can be targeted through spot reduction.

Spot reduction is the belief that one can target a certain part of the body and lose fat from there specifically. This isn’t possible; fat always disappears evenly throughout the body. That is a major misconception when people are trying to eliminate cellulite or develop a six-pack for their abs. People think that if they exercise their legs more the cellulite might disappear from their thighs faster. This isn’t the case. It’s just like the people who only do abdominal workouts in an effort to develop a six-pack. Any method to lose fat will help them do that. The best thing you can do to fight cellulite is to develop a routine that incorporates developing lean muscle, and working out every part of your body evenly. Combine this with a good cellulite lotion, and you should be well on your way!
