People would lose weight a lot more successfully, if they would actually do some research and find out why 95% of people fail to lose weight. How diets make you fat

Lets say a typical dieter who is male and weighs 225 pounds and has 25% body fat, wants to lose 25 pounds.

Before the diet

body fat: 25%
fat weight: 56 pounds
lean body mass: 169 pounds

So like most people he figures that the best way to lose weight is with diets. So he goes on a calorie restrictive diet. which is about 1500 calories per day. Everything goes very nicely and in the first week he manages to shed off 6 pounds. On the second week, he loses a bit less – 5 pounds. So that is 11 pounds in just 2 weeks. From week 3 to 6 our male dieter loses on average of 3 pounds a week, which is another 12 pounds. So during the end of 6 weeks the dieter now weighs 202 pounds. The man has more or less accomplished his goal and the diet seemed to work.

But if we take a closer look, then we can see that, the diet was not very successful at all.

After the diet

202 pounds
21% body fat
42 pounds of fat weight
23 pounds of lost weight
160 pounds of lean body weight
14 pounds of fat weight lost
9 pounds of lean body weight lost

Now we can see very clearly that our dieter has not succeeded at all, because he has lost only 14 pounds of fat weight. The drop in lean body weight means that the person’s metabolism is now slower, so his body burns less calories. Since it is almost impossible to stay on very low calorie diet for too long, he goes back to eating the same way as he did before. But now he has a problem.

A few weeks after the diet has ended

Weight: 225 pounds
Fat percentage: 28%
Fat weight: 63 pounds
Lean body weight: 162 pounds

The problem is that now he has less muscle mass, so his body burns less calories. If he eats the same foods and the same amount of foods as he did before the diet, then now he gains more fat. This is the reason why losing fat weight with diets does not work.
