Green Tea Before Gym, Good For Fat Loss?
![]() |
I think I heard or read this passively somewhere that 2 teacups of green tea about 30mins before going for a workout is very good for fat loss and it also gives you an extra edge to spend more time in the gym. Is this true?
If true would any of these affect the effect?
1. Adding sugar
2. Adding milk
3. Not adding either of the above.
Thank you

I have never heard about nor read this but I am interested in the answer.
Green tea does speed up the metabolism resulting in weight loss but It wouldnt make a huge difference if you have 2 cups before going gym. NEVER add milk and sugar it will negate the thermogenic effects – which means the green tea wont be effective in weight loss anymore.
The antioxidants in green tea have been shown to have a direct effect on lowering cholesterol levels. Green tea also causes carbohydrates to be released slowly, preventing sharp increases in blood-insulin levels. This promotes the burning of fat and speeds up the metabolism.
For this effect you should have 4-6 cups a day, if thats too much you can always buy the green tea capsules (1 capsule is usually equal to 10 cups of tea).
BUT dont expect it to spike up your metabolism lots; it wont. Its a great addition to weight loss which means it will HELP you along with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Personally, I would just drink it raw. It will help with fat loss, as long as you aren’t already a coffee/tea drinker. It helps by increasing your HR and therefore increasing your metabolism, even if for a short period of time. There are other supplements out there with the same effect, only greater then tea. Anything labeled a thermogenic will help with fat loss and giving you extra energy. However, as a bodybuilder, I don’t think the general public should be using fat burning supplements, including green tea. Unless you are at a 7-9% body fat, you don’t need help loosing fat. These supplements were originally created for bodybuilders who have to take there fat levels down to unreal levels (4-6%). And of course, like any supplement, it isn’t going to help much unless you eat clean, eat lots, and lift weights/cardio. I recommend concentrating on cardio, nutrition, and weight lifting and not trying and fat burning supplements (including green tea) until you are below 10% body fat.
i dont know of green tea but black coffee it seems boosts your blood pressure hence giving u more energy to work out.
