
Everyone is looking for the holy grail, the exercises that can build muscle and burn fat. Well the fact is, the kind of exercises that build muscle are different from those which burn fat. The best route involves combining two types of fitness work, as muscle building exercises don’t really burn fat, and vice versa.
Work like this though, is not the sort of thing that really helps you lose fat. Fat burning exercises come at the other end of the gym or weights room. They involve a treadmill, exercise bike or something similar. The best methods of exercise for attacking fat and weight loss are generally spells of high intensity exercise, followed by slightly lowering tensity. For example, it might be riding on an exercise bike at an “uphill” setting for 5 minutes, then turning that back to the normal setting for 10 minute. This variation is what will help you lose fat and encourage weight loss.
When you are looking to build muscle, the most effective method is through doing exercises with weights which involve using more than one set of joints. For example, bench presses, where the shoulders, elbows and wrists are all involved are one great form of muscle building exercise.
So any good plan to build muscle and burn fat has to balance these two extremes.
There is also one problem to bear in mind if you are trying diet and exercise to look good. If you are working hard and burning more energy than you take in the body will burn fat, but it will also lose muscle. So you must incorporate some weight training work for a diet if your main purpose is to look good and carry that muscle definition, whether you are a guy or girl.
