Can Post Partum Hormones Affect Weight Loss?
![]() |
I had a baby 4 weeks ago and recently started taking phentermine to help with the weight loss. I have taken it in the past with excellent results, however, this time I have only lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. Could it have anything to do with my post partum hormones?

5 lbs in 2 weeks is a pretty good amount of weight loss. A good rate for weight loss is considered to be 1% of your weight per week. So if you weigh anything less than 250 lbs, your weight loss is excellent. I will assume you’re not breastfeeding–though this is a really effective way to lose weight!
I don’t think your hormones would have anything to do the effectiveness of this medication since it affects neurotransmitters that have the effect of decreasing hunger sensations. The drug doesn’t do anything to make you lose weight in and of itself–it just lessens your appetite.
