Over a 12-week period, the researchers there gave one group of over-weight adult’s daily doses of an omega 3 supplement and asked them to participate in supervised moderate aerobic exercise three times a week. They compared the results of the first group with that of a second group who were not given the supplement and exercise three times a week.

Group number one, who had been on the omega-3 fish oil lost significantly more weight, particularly around the abdominal region, than the people who had not been given the fish oil and exercise.

They concluded then, that omega 3 fatty acids in the fish oil activates the enzymes responsible for burning fat, and combined with exercise and increased oxygen intake, they increase the metabolic rate, which has an effect of burning more fat and losing weight.
