Weight Lifting For Fat Loss, Which Method Do You Think Is Best?
![]() |
I am 255lbs and want to get down to 220lbs lean, I’m 30 and 5’11.
Which of these two do you think is the best method to bring down body fat and build up lean muscle.
1. To focus on burning fat, once lean then work on bulking up on muscle mass.
OR
2. Focus on building muscle mass that will cause body fat to decrease.
Looking forward to your opinions and experience.
Take care,
Andrew

hey Andrew, I’m a physical trainer and I’ll tell you what I tell all my clients… work on both. Work on losing fat by reducing your calorie intake and exercising regularly, and lift weights as well to build up lean muscles. As far as your routine, try doing cardio every other day and lift weights on the non cardio days.
With that said, the hardest part to balance by doing this is getting enough protein to feed your muscle growth, at the same time reducing your calories. Definitely supplement with whey protein and creatine, and don’t forget your multi-vitamins. Just remember to consumer at least 1.5 grams of protein per body weight (255 x 1.5 = 382 grams per day). I know this may seem a lot, but since you’re already reducing your calories and you’re trying to bulk up, you need to feed your muscles with tons of protein.
There are a lot more to consider, as this is just a brief explanation. I strongly recommend going on different websites and learn more. Good luck Andrew…
Do many reps, low weights. Don’t bulk up, you will gain weight.
