are they the same? Is it just for marketing purposes? Marketing the same product to different targets?
like for example
coke zero for people who don’t want all the sugar in regular coke but don’t want to drink “diet” coke.

It’s the same thing. All they did was mix the chemicals a little differently and released it as a new soda.
the recipes, or whatever you call them, for coke and diet coke are totally different. they’re both cola drinks, but diet coke has a different taste and is essentially a different drink all together, which is why they have always had different marketing campaigns etc…. to distinguish the two separately.
coke zero was brought out as an option for people who like the taste of regular coke as opposed to diet coke. so they kept the taste the same but instead used artificial sweeteners.
as for the ad campaigns, they are still separate from the regular coke ads, but it is stressed that it’s the same drink sans the sugar!!
