    I think it’s a matter of taste.
    I burn the same number of calories walking/jogging (6mph) for 40 minutes and biking (14mph) for 40 minutes.
    I don’t have a treadmill because I walk/jog outside.
    I like to use my stationary bicycle while watching TV. I have one with rowing handles so it’s also an upper body workout.
    To built muscle, you should do weight training.

    I’ll make points to make things easier:
    1) The response made by dylan g is an old belief based on the body’s low energy requirement in order to access fatty acid oxidization in creating ATP (body’s energy unit). Chemically, he is correct, but if you want to lose weight: ahem: >>it is more important to burn calories than it is to create energy through fatty acid oxidization<<. Simple Terms: get your heart rate up, and start doing some intense cardio. Once you’re experienced, start doing some high intensity interval training. That will begin to shoot your metabolism through the roof – something dylan’s answer would never provide for you. (Sadly, he has copied his answer into many questions similar to yours).
    2) You won’t find a reputable fitness source or program anywhere that supports the idea that fitness is different for women than men. Sure, some exercises might need to be different via intensity but they aren’t applicative differences.
    3) The treadmill is better unless you are using your exercise bike in a fashion that makes you hold your weight (standing while biking would be better than a treadmill for example, but would exhaust you a lot faster).
    4) Spot focusing fat loss doesn’t work. Sure, you can dive deep into the study of nutrition and learn what foods affect certain areas, but if spot focusing worked, no one would have a fat belly. Trimming adipose tissue (fat) requires the involvement of your whole body, getting your heart rate up, increasing your metabolism via intensity and strength training), increasing your stroke volume (blood amount pushed per heart beat) and most importantly -I’ll say that again: Most Importantly – DIET. That’s ‘diet’ as in: a healthy eating ROUTINE. – not a “Diet” as in a two week eating plan – those are garbage. It’s time for a new lifestyle and once it kicks in your body will reflect it. I promise.

    treadmill but you might be suprised that you would would lose fat by walking not running
    your body has to be cool to work on fat if you were running it would then heat up your body and you wouldnt be working on losing weight as much as enhancing your cardio. I sugest 30 mins a day of walking about 3.5 for some of the best results for working on fat you might wanna do this right when you wake up before you even eat.
    some people like to just get up have a cup of coffee do there 30 mins then go onwith the day. maby at the end of the day you might wanna do it again or maby only 15 mins before you go to sleep. good luck

    I’d say the treadmill. However, for cardio purposes I’d suggest going to a gym, rather than turning your house into one.
