How Long Will It Take To Experience Weight Loss?

By Diet | Sep 11, 2009

After changing your diet and increasing your excersising, how long will it take to experience any kind of weight loss?
I know that muscle weighs more than fat per unit. Does this mean if you gain muscle mass and lose the fat mass, will your body look healthier? That is, will it look like you are “less flabby?”

When you say “any kind of weight loss” it’s a little broad. On a cellular level, you’ll experience loss (and gains) second by second. To start to SEE weight loss takes a bit longer, but your scale should start inching down within days – how much depends on whether you are dieting safely or using one of the fad diets out there.
That muscle weighs more than fat is a common misunderstanding. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh exactly the same! One pound! But – a pound of muscle is more dense than a pound of fat, so takes up less room in your body. You look thinner.
So yes, you will look less flabby.
Another good benefit is that pound for pound muscle burns more calories than fat. So the more muscle you have, the easier it is to keep off the weight! A well toned person can eat more without weight gain.

Well, you could lose about 5 pounds in two weeks which is very healthy. So about 2 pounds a week.
Towards you other question, Muscle does weigh more than fat, so you might gain the first few days because you have been gaining muscle and not losing fat. No one loses fat the first few days, but yes. If you keep at it, the muscle and fat will balance out so that the fat level can go down. So don’t worry. Just keep at it. Your body will eventually get rid of the fat.

Usually in the beginning of your weight loss journey, through exercise and diet, you will be able to lose more weight than later part in the weight loss. If you do your exercise right and eat the right way, you will be able to lose weight quickly.

It all depends on your exercise routine, your diet etc. You really can’t tell. I’ve lost 10 lbs in 3 days before doing an apple fast.
