Self-image is a powerful internal mechanism that not only influences how you feel about yourself, but also influences your behavior. What is interesting is that you behave in a way that is consistent with who you believe yourself to be. Not only do you act your self-image, but you also self talk to reinforce that image.
One of the effects of this is that we give ourselves labels. If you see yourself as being fat, you give yourself the label of ‘fat’, fat is the way you see yourself as and fat you will be.
Positive self talk will put you in a positive light. This will have an effect on your behavior and on the way you see yourself. Remember you are who you want to be.
If you’re overweight you probably give yourself and negative label. Maybe you think losing weight is an unattainable goal. What you have to do is to start to manage your thinking process. You need to learn to manage the process so that negative thoughts don’t eat away at your self-esteem.
One important thing to be aware of is that you should never worry about what other people think about you. Why? Because most people are far too interested in themselves to give you a second thought. That is always well worth remembering.
If you can get into the habit of seeing yourself in a positive light, of being positive about what you can achieve, and be positive about the very special person that you are, you can lose weight successfully and maintain that weight loss.
