Bodybuilders can also eat much much more food, without getting fat, because all these muscles are burning away the calories. Of course most of us will never become endurance athletes or bodybuilders, so this method has problems as well.
The best option of course is to combine both of them for maximum benefits. Then you do not have to starve yourself or kill yourself with exercise. Then you really have to keep track of your calories, which is not that hard as you think it is.
