I’ve heard they are good for losing weight (as long as you exercise) and good sources of protein. Are they good for weight loss and if not what are other options?

The two that you mentioned aren’t necessarily unhealthy for you, but read the labels carefully to see if they contain a lot of salt or partially hydrogenated oils (if the latter, don’t buy them if possible).
I would not call them “good for weight loss” but I wouldn’t say they are unhealthy, either.
In addition to exercise, the best way to lose weight is to prepare most of your own foods, so that you control the ingredients and because processed foods often contain lots of stuff that you don’t want to eat a much of (this is because of BAD doctors’ and government studies in the early 1960s that made cholesterol out to be the main cause of heart disease–and that’s a lie, it isn’t.).
So, prepare and eat:
*High protein
*Lots of fresh fruits and veggies
*Plenty of fiber (whole grain breads, cereals if you eat cereal for breakfast). My favorite bread is Roman Meal.
You can be grill master for the protein, fresh fruit can simply be purchased and put in a bowl, and veggies don’t require a lot of preparation (just steam them or cook them in water in the microwave for just a few minutes). So this is all quite easy to make.
Drinking green tea is also helpful. Sweeten it with honey, not sugar (brown sugar is okay, though).
I also recommend three supplements: ginseng; and those that you can find at the links below.
There is really no secret to weight loss. All you need to do is eat less calories than your body burns in a day. One thing that is very important is to make sure that you are eating a healthy amount of carbs, proteins, and fats. Adding a 45 minute walk to your day also helps a lot in the weight loss process. There are also supplements that you can use to help give your metabolism a boost as well as add vitamins and anti-oxidants to your diet. One you should check out is the Acai Berry which is considered a Super Food because of its nutrients.
I personally don’t recommend eating frozen meals unless you are super pressed for time and it becomes a better option than a drive thru. I don’t believe frozen meals teach appropriate portion sizes either. Most of them are comprised of mostly rice or noodles, a gravy or sauce of some sort, very little protein and minimal vegetables. This is not teaching you anything. Mind you, there are some specific brands that produce very good meals that are high in fiber and contain a decent amount of protein and vegetables. But most don’t. Understand that vegetables should be the main meal component of any healthy meal. As a general rule, half the plate should be vegetables, one quarter lean protein and the other quarter a complex carbohydrate like potato, corn, beans or a whole wheat grain.
Instead of frozen meals, try cooking extra food on the weekend or each evening so you have something for the next day. Or you could portion out a rotisserie chicken into microwavable containers, add some frozen vegetables and microwave a regular or sweet potato. The next week you can do the same but vary each component; cook a small roast or pork tenderloin or a salmon fillet. These could be great for lunch and dinner, but try eating lighter in the evening if you tend to be less active.

You really have to watch those. They can be packed with TONS of sodium and chemicals. You’re better off making meals at home and separating them into small portions in tupperware containers. Not to mention a lot of those meals are like 400 calories and theres barely any food in them. They often use things like white rice etc. when you can substitute those things for healthier options like brown rice and such.
It’s like those 100 calorie snack packs, you can have like 4 cookies or you can have 100 calories worth of vegetables (trust me, it turns out to be a lot) or fruit etc. which will be more filling. get enough bang for your calorie buck
hey… janet here.. hopefully my own personally story can be of some guidance/help to you..
I’m 5’8 and at the time I was about 220 lbs.. and was trying real hard to lose weight for almost 8 months… i just had a baby girl at the time.. and during my pregnancy i gained a tonnnn of weight and much of it stuck with me after she was born, and the hubby began getting on my case and bothering me non stop about my new weight problem… so after a few months of that, it really started getting to me, plus summer was about to get here- and i love the beach! So i decided to try and do something about it…
ive since tried almost every diet system out there… the standard eat less-exercise more change lifestyle diet, south beach, atkins, slimfast, weight watchers, etc… I also tried taking many different weight loss supplements.. and overall nothing has really worked well for me…. But i came across this diet program >> http://www.fatloss.pcti-system.com .. which a couple of my girlfriends put me onto, and it worked amazing for me like nothing else has.
Right now I’m only 180 lbs.. I’m still overweight but I’ve already lost 40 pounds and I’m well on my way to my goal of 160 lbs.. I hope i was of some help.. I wish you all the best of luck!
What they are good for is to control portions. If you’re going to eat something in addition to them add a salad w/ <100 cal in dressing or a fruit.
