Has Anyone Tried An Elemental Diet For Relief From Severe Food Allergies? Was It Worth It?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

My doc has suggested an “elemental” diet for me to get relief from a disorder that is caused by severe food allergies. This stuff is the liquid “food” that they tube feed people in a coma. It just has what you need to survive in it, nothing else. It’s expensive and, obviously, extremely limiting. However, I’ll do pretty much anything to get relief. Anyone have experience with this stuff?

well not knowing what condition you’re talking about, or what allergies you’re referring to.. I’m not going to be much help.
I do know that many severely allergic (multiple allergy) babies have been put on elemental formulas with quite a bit of success. I do also know a couple adults who have had severe digestive problems caused by undiagnosed food allergies who have had to resort to feeding tubes, pureed foods, and formulas in order to give their system the rest it needed to heal. Its not very appetizing but you have to do what you have to do to get better.
I’d really weigh your options and maybe even get a second opinion if you’re doubting your doctors advice. Many allergies can be avoided easily, and some are more difficult. But it sounds like you may have damage from eating your allergens, which is why the suggestion of elemental formulas.
Do use caution though, if one of your allergies is corn or soy.. formulas may not be successful and you may have to look into a pureed food diet. But do a search online for advice on those if thats your allergy issue.
    Good Luck

  • No, and it sounds rather extreme. Most foods in your supermarket contains preservatives, pesticides and other additives which makes it difficult if you’re sensitive, which you apparently are. Try getting food stuff from a local farmer, greenmarket as they are grown in soil that don’t use pesticides, and meat in which antibiotics and growth hormones are not used, and they are grass fed which makes it healthier for you. All packaged goods, frozen, and canned foods have preservatives/additives which doesn’t have to be listed. Your best option would be to cook it yourself using (organic) virgin coconut oil (which is also great as a moisturizer on your skin. Try this website for it and other products as well as a health report.
