How Do I Ensure My Doberman Puppy Gets Enough Exercise If He Cannot Tolerate The Cold Weather Outside?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

He’s a little young for long walks/runs (8 weeks), and he shivers when outside. He gets enough playtime in the house right now but he’s going to get bigger and need more exercise while it’s only going to get colder.
Note: I don’t want to buy him dog clothes.

until the dog has all his vaccinations i don’t recommend taking the dog outside anyways, unless its your backyard. you do know that dobermans are more prone to parvo and have a lesser % of survival?
he would be ok running outside for short periods of time, just make sure his paws don’t freeze and that he doesn’t cut them with ice / snow.
PS: dogs do shiver when cold!
you can also take him to puppy classes, training and exercise at the same time.
btw training your dog is actually more challenging than just running around. mental exercise is just as much if not more challenging.
don’t over work him though, he is growing rapidly and he should not have much strain put on his joints, especially hips, back etc.

Dobermans are a single coated breed as I’m sure you know so if you are in an area that gets extremely cold in the winter you may have to invest in a coat if he is to spend any amount of time outside. If it does not generally get extremely cold (not much under freezing) in your area in the winter then your dobie should be fine outside in the winter for some exercise. You can also find many ways to exercise a dog in the house. Run with him through the house, play fetch, hide and seek, chasing bubbles or any number of other things can help ensure he gets plenty of exercise in the colder months

i am a doberman lover!!! u r soo lucky!! i am convincing my dad 2 get me an 8 week old male doberman!!!!! anywayz i say indoor swimming is the best idea it can make a 50 pound beagle become half that weight in a month!!!! a doberman is a good swimmer and will get plenty of excersise from swimming ( remember, if u dont give him excersise, he will become a very bad dog. and thats not a good place to start for an 8 week old doberman puppy

  • He’s a dog he’ll be fine once he gets runnin’ around having fun! If you’re that concerned they do make dog coats that aren’t the stereo typical paris Hilton type crap. They just go over their back&have a velcro tab that fastens underneath but I think he’ll be okay without, he’s a dog afterall:)

Lots and lots of games of fetch. Hide and seek games are also good.
As for the weather, he’s still real young and unless it is actually cold, he could be shaking just because of nerves. He’ll get more use to it as he gets older and bigger.

  • you can take him to indoor swimming places,
buy a tredmill and tie the leash on it,
    play ball (or tug),
    wrestle with him,
make up games (hide and go seek, follow the leader),
or just anything that involves playing, because play is excersize.

puppies can torerate cold weatherr…. my puppy is now 4 months old but at 8 we would just let him out in the backyard to run around. and then bring him back inside after he does his business.. but you still want him to be active otherwise he might gain wait.. and you wnat a healthy dog right?

  • Buy him a coat or jumper. Cheap to buy & if you belong to something like Freecycle or Mesa you could have one donated then when he grows out of it you pass it on to someone else. Problem solved.
I have a Whippet puppy & that is what I did.

  • i can tolerate the weather trust me, i have a doberman and they all do that they only shake because they are scared not because they are cold.

  • Aussies are my ? Dogs:

He can tolerate the cold. Don’t worry about it.
