How Soon After Having A Baby Can You Start A Low Calorie Diet?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

A friend of mine is due to have a baby any day now. She wants to lose the weight she has gained asap. Is it safe for her to start a diet straight away after giving birth or should she wait a few weeks to regain her strengh?

Depends whether or not she is breast feeding. She should ask her midwife as nobody on here knows her medical history or situation like her midwife does/will.

  • RACHEL S:

You can start a diet straight away but make sure its not a diet where you hardly eat anything as you need to keep your energy levels up.

  • mad4kitt:

Breast feeding can help with weight loss, but you should allow at least 6 weeks before you go on a low fat diet (breast feeding or not).

  • Okidokim:

Breastfeeding is natures best way to loose unwanted baby pounds.
*Mothers who breastfed exclusively or partially had significantly larger reductions in hip circumference and were less above their prepregnancy weights at 1 month postpartum than mothers who fed formula exclusively.

tell her to rest for a few days and if she can breast feed this is a really good way of dropping the weight id prob if not breatfeeding i suggest trying 1600 cal a day to start dnt drop too much shell need her energy for that lovely baby this help drop 1-3 ilbs a week then after 6 week check up get exercising

  • etk79:

If she is breastfeeding you should wait, although their are diet plans you can use while breastfeeding such as weight watchers, they factor the increase in calorie needs into your points.

I mean it’s immediately to start as soon as possible. At once after breastfeed.

  • Britters:

Your friend should have a little period of time after she gives birth to recoup after everything especially is she has a c section. If she delivers vaginally there should be no problem in her beginning a diet soon after the birth of her baby as u have said she is not breastfeeding, however with all the running around a newborn baby creates she’ll probably be losing weight all the time!! Make sure she asks her midwife about dieting advice tho as they will have her full history. Hope her labour goes well
