The contest is a month long. If I am just out of shape and could stand to lose a few pounds, will people who are overweight have an easier time losing a larger percentage of their weight?

You would actually need to lose less weight to hit the same percentage. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs and want to lose 20%, you would need to lose 40 lbs. A person who weighs 300 lbs would have to lose 60 lbs. You might think it’s easier for the heavy person to drop the weight because they have a lot extra but that’s not the case if they are on a healthy weight loss plan. You have a good chance of winning the contest if you stick to a healthy diet and exercise plan.
It will typically be easier for a fatter person to lose the same percentage of fat. For example, if you’re 200lbs, 20% of your body fat being lost would result in you losing 40lbs while a 300lb person would have to lose 60. However, because the 300lb person is further away from his/her body’s ideal weight, it will be easier to for that person to drop. The closer you become to your ideal weight, the harder it is to lose. Let’s say that everyone in this contest is supposed to lose at least 10% body fat, and you are 200lbs. This means you’d have to lose 20lbs…but if your body’s ideal weight is 190lbs, it will be very hard for you to lose even 10. Your body has a set weight that it wants to be.
No. The fat person will be at a disadvantage.
