I travel outside of the country (Mexico) for work regularly (every week). I also want to maintain a good diet and stay healthy. It is not as easy as when you are at home, but it is still possible. Here are some tips:
    1. You are on vacation so you should still enjoy the regional food!
    2. Standard rule of thumb, at home or on vacation: Just about anything is OK in moderation. If you go out to eat, just don’t stuff yourself. Try new foods, but it’s OK to leave food on the plate or order less. It will give you a chance to try more variety.
    3. Avoid some of the “tourist trap” eateries. They make foods like Americans like it, full of fat and oil. Try the local places, just make sure they are using fresh ingredients. It’s usually better food anyway!
    4. I don’t know what type of place you are staying, but avoid the buffet line if there is one around.
    5. Will your hotel have a gym? I know its vacation, but get up a little early every few days and walk/jog on the treadmill. This, plus your walking around while site seeing should be a good way to burn off some of the calories.
    6. Finally, I say screw it, your on vacation. If you wanna get wasted, then get wasted… Just make sure you don’t make any late night Drunk Dials to the Jamaican Pizza Hut.
