How Long Should A Golden Retrevior Wait After Eating To Exercise?

I have know that large dogs should not exercise directly after meal times in order to limit the chance of bloat. How long exactly should they wait, and is there anything else to be done in order to help limit the chances of bloat?

Here is some info on GDV (gastric dilatation volvulus) in dogs. I think that is what your concern is. I have a Lab and I absolutely do not let her play vigorously directly before or after eating. I usually make her wait for at least an hour after eating before play. I am sure there are a variety of opinions on time limit. I don’t think a slow walk shortly after eating is a problem it’s the aggressive running and rolling around that could be a problem.
Peteducation.com states vigorous activity should be avoided for one hour before and 2 hours after eating and that pets should be fed twice a day as pets that are fed once a day are at increased risk. http://dogs.about.com/od/dogandpuppyheal…http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?…
Wait 20-30 mins would be best. I would not do a lot of running exercise, but a nice walk would be fine.
When we play ball with our Lab, we are usually about an hour after her meal before we go out to throw it.
At least 30 mins but just to be on the safe side, i’d do a hour.
2hrs
