How Long To Wait After Getting A Tattoo To Exercise?

By Diet | Nov 1, 2009

I got 2 new tattoos on July 10th so its officially been a week. My tats have gone through the peeling stage and I’m applying unscented lotion as needed. I’m an exercise junkie and I’m already going nuts about hitting the gym again. Since the tats have peeled how much longer should I wait before hitting the gym again? In case it matters one tat is on my inner wrist and the other is on my left buttcheek.

As long as there isn’t excess rubbing, you should be fine.

Hehe, might need a photograph of the one on your left butt cheek to assess it’s condition properly ;-) Just don’t want you running too soon or anything..

I think you can exercise whenever? I didn’t know it mattered.

As long as it doesn’t cause you any pain, I say go for it now!

    I just got my first tattoo…lol didn’t hurt :)
Anyway…I’m an excercise junky and I WILL NOT WAIT A WEEK. However, I’m also a germ-freak, so I IMMEDIATELY wash the area after excersize a.k.a walking (brisk). I’m holding off on my aerobics for a few days until I think it’s alright. Even though I’m in top physical condition and I panic about gainning weight, it’s not worth putting my body at a higher risk. Just something to think about….
PS: The artist who did my tattoo said to wait a few days before a workout, hope that helps. He’s highly professional, so…good advice. I’m waiting till the third day…it’s a few days, right? lol but try not to over do it. I’ll only go full force five to six days after the procedure.

By the way, keeping your tattoo cleaned (3-4 times a day) and keeping it moisturised is highly advisable. As well, keeping it away from irritations and using a non-fragrenced lotion/moisurizer is also recomended.
