How Should I Exercise My Aggressive Dog?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

My dog is very sweet to people she knows, but is VERY aggressive towards other dogs and other people. How should I exercise her if I can’t walk her?

  • You CAN walk her, but you need to get her into obedience class & start taking control of this situation. YOU control the dog, don’t let the dog control you!

I do not think any other method

Take her to classes. You might not see immediate results but eventually she should get better.

I know alot of people on here suggest training, which is a great great help in gaining confidence in training and understanding your pet, but the animals get used to the other trainees, and yes after spending alot of time socialising you think you have conquered the problem. However on the streets, every new dog and person preposes a new threat hence the ” Im scared/ protecting mum -so i,m going to get in first” bark/growl and also the rudeness i have encountered with other dog owners, you dont have the time to try and the sort it out. My advice would be to get the dog to learn by association. Use a spray or pet corrector, which blasts a cat hiss and distracts the dog from the aggression. Never shout or hit the dog! its cruel and unnecessery. And please remember praise! praise !praise! once the dog has got in routine of remaining silent when a person or dogs walks by.
    hope this helps

Try positive training, and see if it helps make your dog less agressive. Remember, positive actions produce positive results!

Get a treadmill- lots of people let dogs walk on treadmills for exercise. You can also get a sturdy cage muzzle and take her for walks. (Cage muzzled or basket muzzles have a plastic or metal wire ‘cage’ attached to a strap that holds it on, they are much safer than the cloth muzzles which only wrap around the dog’s muzzle but are open in the front).
A cage muzzle, prong collar, and sturdy nylon leash should be plenty safe enough for you to walk her. You could also try to find a quiet hiking trail and go on a hike with her. Even throwing balls in your backyard if it’s fenced in can be good exercise. Be creative!

    Put her on the treadmill.

Keep in mind that the process of desensitizing and counter-conditioning her to accept the presence of other dogs can be mentally exhausting for her, too. Any physical exercise that you choose should be in an area where you can see other dogs coming and reel your dog in (because of course she’ll be on a long line, right?) I have a friend with an aggressive dog who exercises him in the middle of a field, so when other dogs come along, she has some time to bring her dog in to her. Good luck!http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?I…
