If You Took Add Medication, Did You Lose Weight And Experience Loss Of Appetite?

By Diet | Nov 12, 2009

I’m due to go on ADD medication next month. I plan on talking to my doctor of course, but I have a question about appetite loss/ weight loss while on the medication. They were recommending Adderall.
Anyone with any experience?

yes, i took Ritalin at first and it decreased my appetite by a lot
then they switched me off to Adderal, but it took away my appetite the same way Ritalin did

I’ve never taken ADD meds, but my brother has ADHD and he takes medication for it.
He dropped tons of weight, and FAST. At one point, he honestly looked seriously malnourished because he also hit a growth spurt and shot up 5 inches. He still has a loss of appetite, but he’s much better about remembering to eat and he’s gained weight so he just looks like a skinny guy.
He was on Adderall at one point, but he was really aggressive with it. Part of it was probably an age thing (teenager) but it got to the point where he was hitting me because he was angry all the time. Now he’s on a medication called Concerta. The results are much better. He’s not nearly as aggressive, he’s kinda sweet at times, and it’s actually possible to hold a non-violent conversation with him.
    Hope I helped!

YES. The medication is a stimulant medication which can increase your metabolism. I was on Ritalin for a long time. Elementary school through high school. I could never gain any weight (other than normal growth) and I did have a very small appetite. I also felt very tired in the later parts of the day. You can always ask the pharmacist questions about the medication when you pick them up. Hope this helps.

My son was on Concerta and he was unable to gain any weight and at his age and size it is heartbreaking to see.He has also been on Adderall and the difference was he didn’t loose weight but he didn’t gain any either and his concentration is excellent now.But with both of them he had no real change in his eating habits.
