Where Can I Learn About Fitness And Working Out?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

I’m a nutrition major and obviously, exercise (as well as nutrition) is also an important part of being healthy. I give a lot of people nutrition (especially weight loss) advice and part of my advice to them is to exercise. (everybody knows the importance of exercise) The only probem is that I don’t know enough about exercising/working out to tell people exactly what types of workouts to do, how, and how much. I can only tell them the minimum amount of info I know. Where can I take classes to become knowledgeable like a personal trainer? I want to know as much about working out as I do about nutrition.

You can go through any certifying agency and get a basic knowledge of exercise science fundamentals, if you wanted to you could even get certified as a personal trainer. There are some universities that offer distance education courses and professional certificates in personal fitness training, Thomas Jefferson University is one of them.
If you needed some quick info you could also read some of the posts I have put on my yahoo group forum.
I am a personal trainer and provide helpful information and advice to those that are unfamiliar with exercise principles.
Bodybuilding.com is a good resource, but most of the advice written on there is for advanced or elite athletes. Most novices would be overwhelmed if not prone to serious injury if they adhered to some of the advice on there.

    i learned everything from bodybuilding.com
They even have video to show you each excercise and what it targets. I also like Oxygen magazine and Women’s Muscle & Fitness magazine- it’s not filled with junk like Self and Fitness, etc. It’s pure workout info!

    Hi.
It´s good that you are aware of where your knowledge lies and where not, too many people are totally unaware of this. Most people don´t understand the power of knowledge.
Perhaps you can do a Yahoo search for “personal trainer”, “trainer” or something like that. There are a number of ways to become certified. You could try to ask someone at a gym (some staff member), I am sure someone there can at least point you in the right direction.
The best way though is to have experience and deep understanding. That you can only gain by training for some years. I have seen personal trainers train people (they had some certification) and they had no idea what they were doing.
It is very important to be aware of the greatest enemy of athletes that gets too little attention: Overtraining. Overtraining is like a ghost, nobody know about it existence until too late and then people don´t understand what is going on. You need to make sure you know the symptoms of overtraining and how to avoid it.
Most people don´t know anything about overtraining, even seasoned athletes, and as a result it retards their progress unnecessarily.
    Try this regarding overtraining: http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/2001…http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbinfo.p…

    Good luck :-)
