I take Symbyax which increases your appetite. My doctor gave me phentermine diet pills which work quite well and doesn’t interfere with my medicine.

My prescriber has given me Adderall for use with my bipolar meds. This helps with my focus problems and helps with the issue of weight gain (which I’ve mostly kept at bay).
The disadvantage is that I must drink more water, and possibly may be more prone to mood swings when I take caffeine.
I’ve taken Adderall with Depakote and Wellbutrin, With Depakote and Lithium, and am now transition into taking it with Lamictal and Lithium cuz the Depakote isn’t doing enough for me during the winter.

Being Bipolar is very difficult for a person.
See how long this Rx. is on the market and ask another Dr.
To many new meds that are new and under patent control the pharmaceuticals pay a kickback to your Dr. for prescribing them this is well known.

(Personally, if I wasn’t bipolar type 1, and didn’t experience hallucinations, or serious delusional states, I know I’d first try the orthomolecular and Omega 3 fish oil supplements, vitamins, minerals, and mostly raw food diet, for several months. I was put on something for migraines which was also used for weight loss. I was taking an antidepressant a long with that as well as something for chronic pain. For me, the three of them gave me seizures! If you are not sure, you MUST give a list of all medications you are on to each Doctor you see. Also, ask a pharmacist you know and trust how the medications you are on can interact. Some are not aware of all medications one is on and can lead to serious side effects, even death. I would call your primary Doctor for starters and go from there. Good luck!

I am ultradidian bipolar. Yes it would be very bad to prescribe weight loss pills for a bipolar person. They are always some sort of speed!! This will violently swing your moods with booth higher mania and lower depression. Alcohol and caffine are also a problem. They too will accelerate and accentuate your mood swings. I found a high fiber diet with all dairy and almost all meats and all fats removed helped me loose 50 lbs in 60 days. There is a new nedication that is being used to help reduce the weight gain effect of bipolar medications. Ask you Psychatrist!! I believe Berkly is on of the schools that is doing the study. PSS ANY MEDICAL DOCTOR THAT PRESCRIBES A WEIGHT LOSS PILL TO A BIPOLAR PERSON NEEDS A VISIT FROM A GOOD TEAM OF MALPRACTICE LAWYERS. My last Attending Psychatrist was also a neural surgeon and pain specialist with University of Gainsville Florida. He writes the text books for Psychatric students.

You might want to ask your doctor if Topamax is compatible with your other medications. It is sometimes prescribed for weight loss, and is also a mood-stabilizer.
