Is There An Inverse Relationship Between Intelligence And Physical Fitness?
![]() |
Please forgive my question if it is a stupid one.
But is there a correlation between being highly intelligent and being more sedentary, or more prone to not being physically fit?
In more simple terms: do smart people not want to get ‘ripped’ and bodybuild?
I could be completely wrong in my assumption (and it wouldn’t be the first time), but it seems that many people who are more cerebral or “nerdesque” are less likely to body build and so forth. Is this because they are more involved in studious activity?
Please share your thoughts.

In my hometown, this assumption is actually true, but I’ve been to other places too and have talked to ppl that seemed to be extremely intelligent and muscular at the same time. So in my opinion, I think it depends which environment you come from. My best friend is extremely smart but is quite intimidating because he’s so muscular. So it seems like you may come from a place similar to mine, but as soon as you get out in the world, like travel to other places, you’ll see that there are smart ppl who are also physically strong. Your assumption isn’t stupid though. I can see where you could get that opinion.
not really, u enjoy one, but, if u look at the gym as a place where u enjoy yourself then you’ll get same results as you would at school, but thing is you don’t see people like that out there, but in couple of years it will become more of a cultural norm
I believe when you are active you feel better but not sure my friend if we are ore intelligent because of exercise! WE may be more up, look better, move quicker…all good…

One thing is needed to be physically built up is time and determination!
There is laziness of mind and of body. I sincerely believe life is a balance in the strengthening of the two. I have devoted my entire life to this balance. In high school I fit in more with the nerds, but as I reached my late twenties I began to be fascinated by the human form. I am also a fluent artist and musician, so when I hear schwarzenegger say that he looked at his body as a flesh sculpture. I was sold on its more artistic format. Before this I tended to think most who would spend their time improving their bodies were narcissistic and vain, however, once I began my own work, I met with an exhilaration of which can not be achieved in any other way. Not only that but I felt great. A clean strong and sober body, lends itself to a healthy mind. But above even intellect and body, there is the importance of keeping a strong spirit, which I tend to agree is better done with a strong mind than body. A strong body is good, but a strong mind builds a strong spirit and the spirit is what sustains the body when ones own physical strength is spent. So in closing I will say, the balance is ideal, because good government begins with a solid idea, but then you must have the strength to carry it out. What good is it to design and build the perfect rowboat, if you do not have the strength to display its character for yourself?
