Optimal Number Of Weight Lifting Sets For Fitness?

By Diet | Dec 14, 2009

I read recently that the vast majority of benefits in weight lifting, given a goal of fitness vs. building size, is in the first set. In other words, doing two to three sets of a given exercise offers little additional benefit than doing only one.
What is the general consensus regarding this finding?

this is somewhat true. most power lifters will do 3-4 sets of one workout. however each muscle group has multiple workouts focusing on different parts of that muscle. i recomend doing about 4 different workouts per muscle group and 3-4 sets per workout.
