Why Do Vegetarians/vegans Say That It Is Not A Weight Loss Plan, But Imply That All Meat Eaters Are Fat?
![]() |
I’ve just noticed a trend that more and more vegetarians are saying if you eat meat you’re fat basically, and that isn’t always the case. I am not nor have I ever been overweight and have always ate meat. Also body builders for example eat very high protein diets which usually include a lot of meat, and they certainly are not fat

I definitely don’t think that all meat eaters are overweight. Obviously some are but so are some vegetarians and vegans! Maybe it’s similar to how a lot of meat eaters say that vegans are pale and malnourished.
well meat contributes to obesity, certainly not all meat eaters are fat.
but a vegan diet is healthy. you get fruit and veggies and protein is in non meat sources as well. and you eat healthier. So healthy=average weight.
junk foods typically cause overweight and obesity. most junk foods are not vegan. (i was overweight as a vegetarian)
but that statement is true because most vegetarians or vegans don’t do it to lose weight. they mostly do it for the animals, or to be healthy. not as a fad diet.
I have never heard a vegetarian or vegan say that, and since the majority of the population are omnivores, the concept is ludicrous.
However, most obese people are not vegetarian, and vegetarians suffering from type 2 diabetes are rare.
Also, there are many vegetarian and vegan body builders. It is quite easy to consume a high amount of protein without eating meat.
Please don’t generalize. Not all veg*ns feel that way.
But to address your actual question, as TT pointed out, there is a large number of obese people in the US. Out of all the grossly overweight folks, I’m certain very few – if any – are veg*ns. They are meat eaters.
The consumption of excessive meat leads to obesity, heart attacks, diabetes etc. It is not an opinion. It’s a fact. A great many of the people who have these health complications eat meat.
My veganism is not for weight loss. I love and respect animals. I also follow this lifestyle for spiritual reasons. I don’t think God intended for humans to abuse His creatures like that. I think that abstaining from meat is healthier for me.
I save my weight-loss concentrations for the gym (which I visit 6 days/week).
I’ve never said that. I’m a fat vegetarian (30 pounds overweight). What does that say about me? I’ve never said it’s about the diet, but how one eats. Anyone who eats meat can be healthy too. Hell, most people who are anorexic eat meat. I’ve seen some really skinny people who eat meat, and I’ve also seen really huge people who eat meat too.
I have not heard vegetarians I know say that and I’ve never said it. I do believe that if you eat commercial meat that it’s unhealthy for you.
You can be a fat vegetarian too. It all depends on our bodies, our hormones, genetics, and food choices.
Well 31% of americans are obese 63% of americans are overweight and let see only 2.5% of americans are vegetarian I will let you work out the math…
Because many are juggling fact, opinion and reputation. Vegetarianism has gotten some bad press as being a cover for eating disorders. I don’t think ANY of them imply ALL meat eaters are fat.
I’ve never heard any vegetarians say that before.
no they dont
dont generalize i bet theres more meat eaters who think that all vegetarian and vegans are skinny
The only people who say that are twelve year old girls.
