Cutting Beer From Diet And Fat Loss…?
![]() |
I drink about 18 12 oz. IPA beers in a week. Assume I am twenty pounds of fat over ideal weight. If I made no other changes to my diet or activity level how much fat could I expect to lose in 1 month?

Interesting to figure, first there is the amount of calories, an average microbrew has 156 calories per 12 oz. so that, times 18 is 2808, a pound of bodyfat is equivalent to 3500 calories, so that would be a net change of .8 lbs/week or almost 3.5 lbs a month by cutting out the beer.
In reality, the beer could contribute to fat gain/retention even more than that because it is thought that the alcohol slows your metabolism and also, it could take a bite out of any attempts to gain lean muscle because alcohol consumption suppresses testosterone production so it is anti-androgenic.
Beer is high in carbs, so it could help. Don’t replace it with liquor or wine, as both are high in sugar.
I would not expect a dramatic change in such a short time. 1 month is not very long at all.
