How Can I Make This Experiment On Health And Fitness Work?
![]() |
Hello,
I am beginning an experiment in which I will test which type of exercising improves lung efficiency better.
Running alone or doing a combination of running and working out?
I was wondering what factors I should take into consideration and what results I should end up yielding.
Any help is appreciated,

You have to be careful, your diet will be as important as your running and exercise as the body can only use the resouces it has put in. I tried something simular before and found the below resouce quite helpful if your looking for direction on speed metabolism up.
First things that come to my mind are testing both VO2 max and their recovery heart rate in 1-2 minutes after exercise.
I would train a group of people who are generally in good health but not in the best shape for running. Try to find participants with similar health.
Put one half of this group and commit them to only running
Put the other half into a balance of both running and working out
Then get your results from the effects after about 4 weeks. I personally believe though that you have to be specific when you say the “just running group” do you mean long distance running, sprints, fartlek running, hills? be specific on that.
From my experience I know for a fact that only running is not the best for your health because although it does help cardiovascularly you miss out on a lot of benefits of lifting weights and resistance training.
