Well this all depends what sort off fracture you substained, where the fracture was and your age, this all matters in the healing process.Normally with fractures to the ankle, swelling can take along time to go normally mths, your ankloe will feel wk so even if you done need physio you need to do plenty off exercise like swimming, dont over do it ,this wont speed the healing process at all.The tubigrip you have on is there for just a little support thats all,its not there for quicker healing to the ankle. If you have any worries go and see your gp,but i think you will be out off action for a few mths yet.Good Luck
You may want to double check with your doctor if you should if you have not already been advised to do some stretches etc.
When I broke my ankle, and came out of the airboot. I was told to do the alphabet A-Z by pointing my toe and writing the letters in the air while sitting or laying in bed. If I felt pain I was to stop immediately. It took a little work to get through each letter with little pain, and no crackling sounds. Please double check with you physician if it is in your best interest to start stretches.
Till this day my ankle is still weak at moments, not sure it would ever be 100% cured. I do everything I did before, but sometimes it just feels a little weak or tender. (broke it about 2 years ago).
A doctor once told me that it takes 6 months for a bone to *completely* heal.
I did something similar and I’m just getting close to being off crutches, although I had torn ligaments as well. 8 weeks and counting for me. It sucks big time…spring is here and I want to go golfing!!! Good luck.
I broke my ankle last October and still have a bit of a limp now and again. The physio gave me exercises to do at home three or four times a day, which really helped. Unfortunately the physio also said to me it could take a year to get back to normal and for the swelling to go down (but then I did also have two lots of surgery). I guess each case is different. I hope you have a speedy recovery! Take care x
As am sure your Doc has told you it varies from person to person, the mechanism of injury, the type of fracture, other structures involved, vascularity of the area etc.
Physio is best addressed by a suitably qualified healthcare professional on an individual bassis. Diet and massage are also important factors to be considered.
