How Many Hours Should I Exercise In One Day?
![]() |
I want to life weights for arms for 45 minutes
bike for 45 minutes
to abdominal exercises for 45 minutes
run for 45 minutes
………how many hours should I exercise, each a different exercise in 45 minutes, maximum? You know, there is a certain thing called exercising anorexia and I don’t want to get anywhere near that.

First of all, how old are you? and what is your athletic background to begin with? It appears to me at first that you might be overdoing it. According to “The Body Sculpting Bible for Women” weight training or other strength training should be done for a maximum of 60 minutes a day. Aerobic activities have a similar time frame.
All abdominal work falls under the category of strength training. Biking and running fall under the guise of aerobics. Together you should be working out for a maximum of 2 hours a day. Any more and you might be overdoing it. Not necessarily but you might. (I have been known, when I was younger and dumber, to train up to six hours a day or more!! But I am just plain crazy! *wink*)
A good idea is to err on the side of caution, and gradually progress to harder, more intensive workouts. More intense doesn’t mean longer, just work out harder. Take less time between sets. Try more weight or more reps. But when the hour chimes, stop!
Consult with you doctor for more medical feedback relating directly to you. They have knowledge that you might not know about yourself. (Of course, don’t let them dissuade you from your goals either. But they are the voice of caution and perspective, so it is wise to listen and understand.)
Consult as well, with a professional trainer in your local area. Just set up an appoinment to meet with them to discuss the program you are on. If it works for you, then great, you won’t be needing their services. But if they point out some inbalances in your regimen, you may want to utilize them to even out your workout schedules. They are paid to maximize people’s workouts, so that they get the most results for their time, efforts and money. They can do the same for you.
Lastly, read as much information about training, working out, etc. that you can. Go to the bookstore and buy some workout guides or magazines. Not sure which one to get? then go to the library and check one out for free! Read it. Take notes. And bring it back and get a different one. You’ll eventually find the answers to all your questions.
Good Luck. Peace.

run at least 35-45 minutes for a good cardio workout
60 mins at least.

I am 18, and way 129, veery high matablism.
Don’t over do it…45 minutes is quite a long time to be spending on one thing. I think I would get bored!! You may want to shorten your times and do the rotation a couple of times. Good luck to you!
