How Much Exercise Is Too Much For A 4 1/2 Month Old Puppy?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

I have a siberian husky who is a little over 4 1/2 months old. I’ve been taking her for 30-45 minute walks every day. I also have a 4 year old siberian husky and they often run around and play in the yard. I’ve heard exercise can be bad for young pups. Is this too much exercise for her?

  • I think that is a good amount especially for a more energetic breed like that. If anything take for numerous short walks throughout the day rather than one or two really long walks. Have fun!

  • They know there limit. It is hard to give a puppy to much exercise
they are a ball of energy. When they have had enough they will just lay down and that will be that. They take power naps and
they are ready to go again. I think your older dog will get tired out before the puppy will lol.

I would say that dogs tell you when they need activity – they need to get their “wigglies” out.
But that said you should be careful of doing anything to intense for her – ie extended jogging or running up and down things too much. Her hips are going to be taking a lot and activities like that do put strain on them. Let her have a play and walks but be careful of anything too hard. Have fun!

As you know with your older Sibe…they are very energetic! I have a young sibe myself and found that he never wears out…however, we took him on a 10km hike the other weekend and it completely tired him out…he slept all day…I was worried about his legs and when we went for our checkup at the vet asked them if this was too long…they said it was a little on the long side, but his build is really strong already so I just gave him some leg massages…:o) She said to be careful, when he looked like he was getting tired to stop…

I would say as long as it is not a running walk that you should be fine. Those young bones aren’t formed yet so that is the reason you don’t want to excercise a large breed too much..

  • NO. they will stop and let you know when they’ve had enough. from what i’ve read, your pup needs LOTS of exercise.

No its not too much exercise… if your puppy thinks its too much then he’ll just lay down and go to sleep (or stop running around) It’s not like you are forcing him to play with the husky… he’ll stop if he wants to =)

As long as you are not forcing the pup past exhaustion you will be ok. As long as a nap and they are ready to go again you know you are ok. Have fun. Soon your going to be worring about you being over excercised to keep them fit :) By this time next year you could be getting around on a sled in the snow while the rest of us are digging out!!
