How Should I Exercise My Arms So That I Can Start Doing Chin-ups?
![]() |
I’m basically starting my 20s and just starting to exercise. I tried chin-ups but couldn’t even do one. How would you recommend I exercise my arms to be able to start? (eg. how many push-ups should I be able to do before I can start chin-ups?) I don’t have lots of time on my hands so I can only do quick exercises like push-ups.

first of all chin-ups and push-ups are working completely different muscle groups. push-ups work the chest and triceps while chin-ups are working your biceps and back. i would recommend that you go buy a set of dumbells or a barbell and start doing bicep curls 2-3 days a week. this will build and strengthen your biceps up
try liftin weight for like an hour a week and doing push ups too and if you weight less theres less to pull up
Put a box or support underneath yourself to assist in doing chin-ups, until you gain enough strength to do them without the assistance.
pushups are unrelated to chin ups for the most part. The best advice I have is to but some weights and do some arm curls, those are the same muscle groups, if you work out the biceps and shoulders, then chin-ups should come easier. Also, if you have anyone that can just hold your feet while you do chin ups, its like a spotting situation, and as you get stronger, you need less and less of a spot until eventually you can do it alone
good luck
