Is Anyone Else Distraught At The Lack Of Physical Fitness In The General Military?

I don’t know about other branches, but the Marine Corps will weed out non-hackers no matter what MOS they are in.

It takes a lot to make me “distraught.”
Sailors are tested for their physical fitness on a regular basis. I can’t speak for the other branches, I served 22 years in the Navy and I suspect you haven’t even crossed the brow of a naval vessel, but I can assure you that today’s sailors are 100% capable of doing their duty.
If you want to test their fitness yourself try sticking your head in a recruiter’s office and tell them to get off their fat butts and prepare to defend themselves.
Good luck.
What specifically has you distraught? More info would help us answer.
One thing I’ll say is that someone might not look like the movie stars who play soldiers in the movies, but still be strong and in great physical shape. It’s all about performance, not being pretty.
And keep in mind that some jobs only require a person to be in the minimum acceptable conditioning, while others have much more stringent requirements. Walking into a Human Resources office on base, for instance, won’t necessarily give you an idea of what the Infantry requires for fitness.
You have to understand the current manning issues going on. The military is not being as strict in enforcing height-weight standards because the force is already stretched thin as it is.
The Marines are the least affected by this, as they are the smallest branch of the military. The Army, being much larger, can’t afford to kick out people for being a little overweight right now. Keep watching though, as Iraq and Afghanistan end, you will see a drawdown, which is normal. When that reduction in forces occurs as it always does, a lot of the fatties will get the boot.
Overweight soldiers embarrass me too, that’s why I made sure if I got any, me and smoke (PSG) un-fatted them real fast.
hope that helps,

how much physical fitness do you need to look at a video stream and computer monitor and push a button that shoots a missile or fires a gun on an unmanned predator drone? to drive an armored vehicle around and pull a trigger whenever you see a brown person? what does physical fitness have to do with it?
not really, you cant really just go off of looks when it comes to physical fitness though.
i.e. theres more than a handful of SF guys on bragg who look a bit tubby…but you still see them haulling *** (just a guess but 7 minute miles) all the way from their HQ to the DFAC on ardennes and longstreet every morning (about a 6 mile route)
nope cant say that i have seen that problem. Maybe you should join the marines. you get in trouble if you arent in shape. The military personell ive been around are physically fit and can preform their jobs effectively
Yeah. The worst I saw was an Air Force NCO (no offence to the AF) that literaly looked like Chris Farley. I thought he was some fat guy in hunting camo at first, not military.
Yes, I am completely and totally distraught! LMFAO!
right… the physical fitness is well in the armed forces
I never saw it.
Maybe in your branch, but not in the USMC.
No,
b/c it’s not true.
