Can Wellbutrin Prevent Weight Loss?
![]() |
When I first went on Wellbutrin, I lost 8 pounds. That was quite a while ago. About a month ago I started on a very strict diet, and I’ve only lost 2 pounds. With the calories I’m taking in, I should have lost at least 6-7 by now. I know that SSRIs mess up your metabolism and cause weight gain, but I’ve always been told that Wellbutrin does the opposite. Has anyone had a similar experience?

no i’ve never took wellbutrin and i don’t diet so no?
Wellbutrin is not an SSRI, an SSRI is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Wellbutrin is an NDRI,
Norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors. It’s similar to cathinone and diethylpropion, and to phenethylamines in general. It is not used for weight loss in any way but it won’t be causing you to gain weight. If anything you would notice some weight loss. I have been on wellbutrin while taking my Dexedrine daily and it seemed to just make me less hungry than before. Definitely don’t expect weight loss from wellbutrin as if it is some type of psychostimulant such as, Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine, Desoxyn, Focalin, or anything like that.
