Is Using A Exercise Bike As Effective As Running?

Fat Loss 4 Idiots

I know that running maybe a bit more intense, but is a exercise bike just as effective as running in terms of burning calories and losing weight? And what level from 1-8 do i need to be on when using the exercise bike to make a difference?

probably have to be around level 4 for it to approach running intensity.
the higher levels like 6,7,8 are probably good for interval training. like doing sprints for 10 to 45?seconds.
i ride a road bike and big gears can wreck your knees in a hurry if you push too hard so you have to watch out for overstressing at those higher intensity.

In the long run, a bike is healthier for you, because running can damage your joints and feet. If you want to run, use an elliptical machine, which greatly lessens the shock to your legs, while getting the running working and using your arms. Biking can be more intense on your legs, depending on the resistance, but your get a more passive workout on your arms from holding yourself upright or pushing and pulling to turn. For calorie burning I would suggest the bike, but bike outside if you can, rather than inside.

    LOL
How in the world would we know what the levels mean on your mystery bike?
Cycling uses slightly different muscles than running, but can be just as effective at burning calories and maintaining cardiovascular fitness. Go by heartrate. Maintain the same heartrate riding that you do while running will get you roughly the same calorie burn.
