We've all experienced times when all the hard work, dedication and even despair does not seem to be enough to launch us. We focus so much on what we do not, we begin to lose sight of the main reason for exercising in the first place. Before you know it youStart entertaining the idea of quitting.

We've all heard of the Eighty – twenty rule in life. This is where our life is built on twenty percent of our efforts. The eighty percent remaining is too be pushed by the other twenty per cent. When it comes to our weight loss goals and fitness can watch the same rate in a different light. What about the rule of eight twenty in our attitudes?

When I started exercising and weight training over twenty yearsAgo I knew absolutely nothing about fitness, diet or if my future was headed. However, I do think that if I maintain consistency, something had to change. With this attitude came a hope for the future and an understanding that the days would be followed by bad.

It is not realistic for you and me to think that every day in the gym and the restaurant will be great? We will be tempted to eat badly and we will be discouraged to go workout from time to time. It's reality.However, understanding that in the long run if you have more good days than bad, things will develop well for you. This mindset is the key to longevity. Here are some ideas on how to follow the 80/20 rule:

1. Write in detail your annual target.
2. Get an accountability partner.
3. Focus on health internal vs. external.
4. Focus on the feeling not work.
