What Home Fitness Equipment Offers The Best Results?
![]() |
I want to purchase a single piece of workout equipment that offers aerobic activity but will also tone muscle. I want to burn fat and calories and tone my muscles without bulking up.
I have been running on a treadmill in our apartment complex gym, and love the results. But I was wondering if something like an elliptical machine would offer the same results or better without the wear and tear on my body caused by running?

All you need are dumbbells. Use light dumbbells to make the treadmill harder. You can also do high intensity interval training like that. Then with heavier dumbbells you can do a full body basic weight lifting routine a couple times a week to tone your muscles. Don’t worry, you can’t bulk up without steroids. You will gain some muscle, but you won’t look big at all. It will also help you gain bone density and keep your joints healthy. This will help you avoid osteoperosis and stiff joints when you get older.
I do like elipticals. I do my intervals on those. You just switch between a high and low setting. Why not get get both. Adjustable dumbbells are cheap anyway.
Perhaps you should simply invest in so me dumbbells and one of them big huge exercise balls. Do not worry about bulking up, the women who get huge are those that are taking male hormone supplements and of coarse one must eat a lot to sustain that type of muscle. The treadmill is great but for your question a good elliptical may be in order simply because of the arm things that swing back and forth. Any peice of equipment that you can have fun on the will elevate your heart rate will burn fat but being that you want to tone all over i would once again suggest an elliptical, dumbells and an exercise ball.
ya an elliptical or orbitrek really work your whole body its the number 1 workout machine i have both and the orbitrek takes longer because all your muscles are being used
Weights make everything faster and increae aerobic effects and unless you a huge repetition arent going to bulk you up.
Just 10 pound dumbells increase everything a lot.
I like The Firm Transfirmer system. Costs about $60, you can buy it on tv, online, or at Target. Has three dvds, and a double step system, which can be used in a multitude of ways. You also need to buy 3 sets of weights – 3,5,and 8 pounds (costs about $25 for all three).
This is a great system because it involves cardio and resistance training in one system, and there are also other dvds you can buy if you get bored with the three.
Of course, this isn’t for everyone.
An elliptical machine is a really good choice, but if you are going to invest in a big machine like that, you need to accept the fact that you are going to eventually get either used to it, or bored. You may be better off purchasing a machine that has a variety of exercises on it, so that you can get an all over workout.
do some chores and let the men watch football

An elliptical trainer is much easier on the joints than a treadmill, but for muscle tone I would recommend weights. All forms of cardio exercise are great for burning fat, but you need to lift weights to tone/build muscles. Buy an elliptical and a couple free weights…P.S.Lifting weights doesn’t turn women into SHEMEN either!
