I believe it's called obsessive compulsive disorder. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a psychiatric disorder (more specifically, it is an anxiety disorder) most commonly characterized by a person's obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions. Thus it is an anxiety disorder. If indeed it's interfering with your everyday life you might want to seek professional help. Your family doctor is the place to start. He can refer you to someone with real answers and help. I have an unreasonable fear of heights. I Don't like it but it doesn't effect my ability to work or sleep or lead an otherwise normal life so I haven't seen the need to seek help. But one thing I did realize is that I would be unable to conquer it on my own and if it did become debilitating I would not hesitate to get help. Once you pinpoint what triggered this behavior , treatment options will be much easier to decide. Please understand, I'm not a doctor or a psychologist so I may be way off here. Only a health care professional can properly diagnose and treat illnesses. Good luck. I hope this gives you a place to start.
