The skinfold test is performed with a device called a skinfold caliper.
So how do you use a skinfold caliper to measure fat? Most preparations of body fat require you to measure fat in 3 differentsites then adding up the sum of your total. You can obtain these measures is the suprailliac (spot about 1 inch above the point of your hip bones), abdominal pain, chest, biceps and triceps areas. Follow these steps to measure your body fat:
(1) Pinch the skin of 3 areas defined above between your thumb and forefinger and gently pull the skin.
(2) Place the jaws of the caliper to pinch the skin after about 1 / 4 inch from the finger and thumb andclamp down until you have a firm grasp of your skin.
