There are a lot of misconceptions regarding weight loss and that’s mainly because of all the lies spread on TV by different commercials promoting unnecessary and highly expensive training equipment that will take up space in your living room and still keep you fat and unhappy. The truth is, you don’t need to starve to death or exercise 5 hours every day to lose weight and look better. Eat More and Lose Fat
If you want to lose weight, how does eating as much as you want, whenever you want and still losing weight sound?
Eat more and lose fat – sounds good, doesn´t it?
Well you can and I should know, because I did it. I lost 28 pounds in weight and 2″ off my bust, 4″ off my waist and 5″ off my hips in 3 months by following an eating plan which was so varied and delicious that I couldn´t believe I would lose weight. (OK, there was a little exercise involved as well, but the extent of that was a brisk half hour walk twice a day. I have dogs, so I was walking them anyway; I just stepped up the tempo a little. And for me, that worked).
However, without a doubt, the main reason for the weight and inch loss was;
Low-fat but high quantity and high quality eating.
I bet I know what you´re thinking; “low-fat = zero taste” or “surely you can´t eat more and lose fat?”. I used to think that too until I started experimenting with the ingredients available to me and then I realised how wrong I was.
Here´s a list of the types of foods I eat and enjoy now every day;
Fresh vegetables – I had no idea how many types of vegetable there were until I started shopping for them!
Beans and pulses – ditto!
Whole grains and cereals – same again!
Fresh fruit – and again!
Fresh fish (oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and herring only occasionally)
Lean chicken or turkey
Wholegrain bread
Before I lost the weight, I thought “there´s nothing revolutionary about this list – there´s nothing on it that a million other people haven´t already suggested could be beneficial to weight loss.”
I´ve lost weight and inches, I eat as much as I want, when I want, I never feel hungry, I´ve got a ton of energy, my body is more toned and best of all, I feel great.
The huge revelation to me though, was the difference that eating the food on this list made to my life. It has changed for the better and that´s the honest truth. Six months ago, there´s no way most of that stuff would have made its way into my kitchen, but now, I don´t want to eat anything else.
Let me give you an example of the kind of stuff I used to eat during a day:
BREAKFAST
2 fried eggs on 2 slices of white toast with butter, or
2 rashers of grilled bacon with 2 scrambled eggs made with milk and butter and two slices of white toast with butter
LUNCH
Cheeseburger with fries and salad, or
Grilled cheese sandwich or
Sausage and onion sandwich
DINNER
Beef lasagne with fries and/or garlic bread
Steak pie with potatoes or fries, vegetables and gravy
Chicken portion with fried potatoes and gravy
These are pretty high-fat content foods.
Now let me give you an example of what I eat now during a day:
BREAKFAST
Whole-wheat pancakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup – as many as I feel like eating, or
A omelette sandwich, made with 1 egg on wholegrain bread, with onions, tomatoes, tuna, pickles and mild mustard, or
A huge bowl of oatmeal (I like mine with ice-cold low-fat milk) with lots of fresh fruit, or
Chickpea, lentil or bean pate* with wholegrain toast (*blend cooked chickpeas, lentils or beans with garlic and onion which have been cooked in soy sauce. Add a couple of squeezes of lemon juice and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Chill until firm and then enjoy with wholegrain bread or crackers)
LUNCH
An enormous salad containing every vegetable I have in my fridge with strips of lean chicken or turkey and a lemon, garlic and fresh herb dressing, or
A big bowl of vegetable and bean soup, or
A plate of wholegrain rice with a homemade sauce of tomatoes, garlic, onions, peppers and whatever else I want to throw in, or
A mixed salad of wholegrains, beans and lentils with red and green peppers, sweetcorn, red onion and a tin of tuna flaked through
DINNER
Fresh fish, grilled, poached or steamed (as much as I want), served with a huge side portion of fresh vegetables and seasoned with lemon juice and freshly ground black pepper, or
Grilled lean chicken breast seasoned with fresh herbs, garlic, lemon juice and black pepper served with as much salad or vegetables as I want, or
A generous serving of chicken, vegetable and bean stew served with wholegrain or brown rice, or
A plate of whole-wheat pancakes with a spicy bean, vegetable and tomato filling served with a side portion of as much mixed salad as I want
etc., etc., you get the picture.
By the way, there are two other things you may be interested to know.
The first thing is that I only ever eat now when I´m hungry. That may sound obvious to you, but in the past, I used to eat because it was breakfast-time, or lunchtime or dinnertime, or whatever. These days, if I´m not hungry at “breakfast-time” then I don´t eat until I am. Likewise, if I should get hungry before my next meal (which doesn´t happen very often because I eat so much), I´ll snack on something good.
The second thing is that I hardly eat potatoes or pasta anymore. I could if I wanted to, but for some reason, they make me feel bloated since I changed my eating habits, so I choose not to.
So there you have it. This is how I eat more and lose fat. And because the food is so delicious, I rarely have to cook anything different for my family because they love it too!
